Sint-Niklaas wanted a pool that a school class could reach on foot and a club could race in. The hall is a single 31 meter timber span with no columns in the water, lit along its north edge so swimmers never look into glare. The changing village is a run of individual cabins rather than two large rooms, which the client asked for after consulting the schools. Waste heat from the plant preheats the learner pool, and the building has run at 41 percent of the energy of the pool it replaced through its first full winter.
